The agency "UZSTANDARD" held its first seminar on anti-counterfeiting

The seminar, held at the Agency "Uzstandard", was divided into two blocks. The first block included a review of features and problems of patenting in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the difficulties of choosing the correct strategy for the legal protection of intellectual property.

It is important to note the activity on the part of the agency "Uzstandard". Questions have been raised by them on unauthorized use of trademarks and industrial designs, issues of efficiency and effectiveness of the laws governing these issues. In particular it was noted that the earlier violations in this area was greater, as unscrupulous competitors feel their impunity and no fear of sanctions provided by law. However, on January 6, 2012 adopted a new version of the Law "On Competition", which clearly defines types of unfair competition relating to the unlawful use of means of individualization of goods or services. Penalties and fines were increased, which reduced the amount of unfair competition. Moreover, consumers start to complaining, which, of course, helps employees of all areas related to this industry.

The second block of the seminar was devoted directly to the concept of "counterfeit" and the Central Office for Anti-Counterfeiting. It was told about the negative consequences that entails the existence of counterfeit products on the market. Also, the samples were considered counterfeit goods, production of which was suppressed in Uzbekistan through the activities of the Centre against counterfeiting.

Center for Combating counterfeiting regularly conducts seminar-trainings in the community and government organizations of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The result of these workshops can become not only increase of awareness of counterfeiting but also fruitful cooperation in the fight against unscrupulous manufacturers who violate the law and intellectual property rights.
